Burton Swimming
Burton Swimming Club has made giant strides under the joint head coach team of Simon and Ian since it suffered a major setback 5 years ago when the local pool closed for refurbishment.  While the Local Authority, Councillors and Local MP saw the importance of swimming for the young people in the town and helped stabilise the club, Simon and Ian set about transforming the training structure.

It is a team effort.  Simon and Ian actively recruited coaches, Steve Fowkes organised the accounts and Craig Day worked on sponsorship.  Membership for the 130 year old club is now at an all time high.  Junior performances transformed overnight and there is a waiting list to join the club.

The big event of the year is the Bridge to Bridge Swim.  The event was first held in 1932 swum down stream on the River Trent from Ferry Bridge to Trent Bridge.  After many years oas an open water event it has since been moved to the safety of Meadowside Leisure Centre Pool.  Competitors swim 1500 metres either individually or as a team with many swimming to raise money for charity.  As you can imagine the Bridge to Bridge event is now part of the Town of Burtons heritage.
