Athleisure is the name given to a range of sportswear that is worn from the gym to the coffee shop or from work to workout. The CEO of Nike, Marc Parker, says ‘leggings are the new denim’ as leggings sales eat into the jeans market. Upmarket sports retailer JD put their 21% increase down to the growth in the athleisure market. A recent Vogue article gave readers its 5 golden rules on how to wear the new trend garments saying ‘it is totally acceptable to wear Athleisure all day’. There is no hint the trend will slow down.
