Alison’s Story:
Alison made a life changing decision in 2006 to leave her job as a senior account manager at First Direct to retrain as a personal fitness trainer and sport massage therapist. She is enjoying her new life and has never looked back. The first phase started with a job at a Health Club – this was before setting up her own business teaching Pilates and pracising Sports Massage Therapy.
Alison says ‘Creating community pilates classes has been a fantastic experience. Seeing my participants improve their mobility, flexibility and function is brilliant. One participant says that since joining my class he can now easily put on his socks – that is what is all about – exercise to make life easier.’
Alison teaches Pilates at The Physios either as 1:1 or in small classes. These classes are designed to help patients recover from specific conditions like knee replacement or to cope with chronic back pain.
‘Working at The Physio’s Sports Massage Therapy is, for many patients, an integral part of their recovery/rehabilitation. This can be following surgery, recovering from injury or helping patients with chronic conditions.’
Alison is a keen runner and a member of Penistone Footpath Runners. ‘My role within the club is to make everyone look good by sourcing top quality kit – improving the PRF brand image in the community. During 2016, working with Zeon Teamwear, we have introduced newly designed club vests, introduced club T shirts along with warm up and cool down kit.’
I enjoy being part of the local running community and networking and creating friends.
Achievements:
Fully recovering from a ‘slipped disc’ in 2012, despite being told I may not run as well as previously I have gone on to achieve a PB at a half marathon.
2015 – 1st lady vet 50 at the Tissington Trail Half in 1.41 PB
2016 – 3rd lady vet 50 at the South Yorkshire 5 mile road league.
